Your chart points to the North Pole. Your boat
compass points to the Magnetic North Pole. This
difference is called Magnetic Variation. The closer
we get to the North Pole the more pronounced the
difference.
While Magnetic Variation sounds complicated it is a
simple computation to convert your True Course
number into a Magnetic Course heading that your
compass uses to get you to your destination.
